To Encounter
2022
The statue Encounter was created from 2 pieces of a large (40 kg) heavy piece of Opal stone.
These pieces had been sawed off to allow further processing of the shape of that statue.
Remaining pieces have been stored against each other for a while.
At the end of 2021 I picked them up again to do something with them.
That's how the idea arose to have them face each other.
To make the space between the 2 pieces visible and tangible.
Being able to see each other from a distance became a theme.
Being able to meet was an increasingly strong need in Covid.
By placing them so apart, the 2 silhouettes can MEET each other.
Fish out of the Sea
2022When I started this sculpture in July 2021, I had in mind a line that would cross the stone. I got entangled during the execution of lines and planes in an opening through the stone. By letting go of my idea and looking, the stone made me feel what shape was in it and how it wanted to stand. This is the result.

2 out of 1 stone
